This Motionpoems project was a little gem with a very big footprint. Four short films were selected to be projected—yes, projected—onto the facade of the Union Depot in St. Paul for Art Crawl that October. Now, imagine two 80,000-lumen projectors throwing images 140 feet across a 250-by-40-foot stretch of historic stone. It was, in a word, magical—like if François Truffaut had wandered into the Minnesota State Fair.
My film, Carousel, was one of the chosen few. With a team of talented collaborators, we brought together green screen actors, high-def images of carousel horses, and a lovingly crafted 3D carousel to spin out the story. I directed and animated it—though at that scale, I mostly felt like a guy trying to hug a freight train. Check out the documentary below on the full project. Still one of my favorites.
